Village on the border with Portugal belonging to the AREA of Andevalo, situated on a small hill surrounded by trees and whose lands are used for the farming of cereals and olive trees. History
There are remains that demonstrate the prehistoric origins of the village as well as the presence of Romans and Moslems.
It sprang up around Alfayat castle, between the years 1262 and 1298.
In 1445 Juan de Guzman, Count of Niebla, granted a series of franchises to its inhabitants.
In 1796 Carlos IV granted it the title of "villa", and it became an independent municipality.
The places of interest
You may seen in Puebla de Guzmán are very varied, starting with the streets themselves, where the modern and the old combine harmoniously in this typical Andalusian town. In these streets you will find an endless number of typical houses of the town, characterized by the white lime of the façade and the Arabic tiles that form the roofs. On Cabezo street you can see the Casa Grande although there are many others such as the Casa de las Maquineras, that of Manolo Evaristo, that of La Isabelita, the house of the Hermandad de los Labradores and the Casa-Palacio de los Guzmanes. Also noteworthy are the Molinos, several churches such as the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Peña, the Church of the Holy Cross and the Church of Santa Bárbara.
