Andelarre

According to the etymological dictionary of Dauzat and Rostaing, Andelarre would be taken from the Germanic name Ando and the common name Lar, meaning clearing. In the end "in the clearing".

The municipal territory covers 4.57 km2, with a minimum altitude of 303 meters and a maximum altitude of 427 meters.

In the 12th century, it was the capital of the parish. At that time a chapel was built overlooking the village with a Templar monastery or "Red Monks" at the foot of it. This right was retained by the Order of Malta until the French Revolution. This monastery was attached to the commandery of Sales, one of the three commanderies of Haute-Saône.

During feudalism, the land of Andelarre included that of Andelarrot and formed an undivided land owned by the same lord of Andelarre.

The barons of Saint-Rémy, the viscounts of Vesoul, the convent of Marteroy, had rights over the country made up mainly of farms. In 1140, Aymes de Faucogney said he owned a farm in Andelarre. In 1245, Jacques de Vellefaux made a donation to the convent of Marteroy de Vesoul by which the canon of Andelarre owed each year 5 hens and 5 loaves of bread. In 1267, Thiébaud de Vesoul also gave to the Vesoul convent its Andelarre farm known as the Petrâ farm. In 1282, Hugues de Vesoul gave his daughter Marguerite de Villeguindry his domain in Andelarre.
